Katherine Roy's planning stage for How to Be an Elephant

Katherine did swaths of research for this wonderful book. In addition to book learnin’, she made a trip to Africa to study real elephants! She was able to talk directly with wild elephant experts, who also took her to see the wild elephants.

In the middle of creating her book, Katherine also gave birth to her own little one. As she writes in her blog, the experience added a whole new layer of depth to the story about a baby elephant and her mother.
