On display at the Schulz Library is the complete run of Akira, the massively influential manga by Katsuhiro Otomo who was recently awarded the 42nd Annual Grand Prix prize at the Angoulême festival in France.
I finally read the whole thing last spring, hot off my first reading of Tezuka’s Buddha and that one-two punch of excellent manga reignited my interest in reading comics in a major way. Akira is one of the most exciting stories I’ve ever experienced and it’s great to see Otomo get this recognition.
Comics & Cola is where I learned that this had happened and there is a nice write up there that’s worth checking out.
