Every cartoonist’s style and process is different. The Howe Public Library is now displaying art by current students at CCS. The show, called In Progress, is in the Ledyard Gallery on the second floor through April 29.

One of more than four walls with student art

Comic pages by Reilly Hadden, a second year student
The show includes art from over two dozen students in both the first and second years. Art includes comic pages and character sketches. Some students color on separate paper from their line work, so you can compare the two pieces of the same work. Other students ink over colored pencil lines that they then remove on the computer. Most art work is touched up at least a bit on the computer, so you get to see these comics in all their warty glory.

Viewing the artwork
This is a fun opportunity to see how the comics look before they are fixed up for printing. The white out and misspellings are a window into the workflow of many up and coming cartoonists.
